Quitting Hydrocodone Cold Turkey?

Question by Lucas M.: Quitting hydrocodone cold turkey?
Hello, I’d like to inquire in on quitting hydrocodone cold turkey. I’m a fifteen year old male who’s recently developed a habit to Norcos. I’ve been taking up to 30 MG per day and I’m running a fine line on supplies and money. I think it’d be the best of my interest to quit all together. Any tips or precautions on this matter?

Thanks all, Lucas.

Be grateful that you’re choosing to get your addiction treated NOW, when you’re still a teenager/adolescent, because after your brain finishes developing, which happens about 18 or 19 years old, your brain CHANGES and addictions that CHILDREN can stop without a second though become far far far more insidious and hard to stop.

I need to make this crystal-fu*king-clear:

Addiction is a million times easier to stop when you’re a teen and those that find stopping at your age “easy” mistakenly believe that this ability will continue into their adult lives WHEN IT WILL NOT.

You’re not on a huge amount… Detox might not be as hard as you think it will be. “Weening” off of Opiates is, basically, pointless and the addict’s focus on the Detox part is the biggest mistake you can make.

Addiction isn’t defined by physical dependancy (which leads to detox in the first place) or by how much or how often you use. Addiction is defined by the inability to stop doing something despite mounting consequences.

You’re going to feel like sh*t for about a week, crave sugar like you wouldn’t believe, your body will start making pain to get you to take the opiates again, specifically back pain, migraines, and joint pain.

DO NOT try to medicate yourself by drinking alcohol, smoking weed, doing meth, etc. etc. etc. because these things just activate the opioid receptors in the brain and it isn’t the lack of opiates that prolongs the detox but the activity of the opioid receptors.

Now, if you were doing heroin or oxy, I’d tell you to start seeking a bed at a treatment center and until you get admitted, keep doing the drugs until you run out and then, as a last resort, drink alcohol because it can stop a lot of the symptoms of detox until you’re under medical care and can be monitored. This isn’t a healthy thing to do but it’s a damn sight better than just starting detox in your bedroom.

I wandered a bit and forgot to put a VERY important bit of information…

DETOX IS THE LEAST OF YOUR BLOODY PROBLEMS!

Addicts focus on the detox but that’s done and over with in about a week… The DRUGS are not your problem, it’s the brain biology and mental illness of Addiction that is the problem.

Like I said, it isn’t the substance you use but the inability to stop using that makes one an addict.

Take a person lacking the biology for addiction and give them actual heroin for a couple of months and then treat them in the hospital for the detox and they’ll walk away and never think about doing drugs again…

The part that makes one an addict is NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP THINKING ABOUT DOING DRUGS AGAIN! And again… And again… Just getting your hands on more drugs.

The “Addiction” part is something that will last you the rest of your life. It doesn’t matter if you stop doing opiates at 15 and never do them again for the rest of your life, you’re still an ADDICT because if given the chance, you’ll spin off again and do another drug, or activity, or get sexually compulsive, or even get into extreme sports to get a “Natural” high of having sh*tloads of hormones released as you leap from that bridge that feels pretty close to doing opiates.

YOU NEED TO GET PROPER HELP FOR YOUR ADDICTION.

? Narcotics Anonymous

? LoveLine’s Facebook Page

? You SHOULD be under medical supervision but as your a teenybopper and male, it means you’re just shy of being able to not drown in the shower.
? You SHOULD tell your parents about this and get their help.
? You SHOULD go talk to your school councilor.
? You SHOULD go talk to SOMEONE about this… And the only one responsible for your harm should you choose to not seek help is YOU.

And don’t for a second think that doing Pills is any different than doing Heroin. Norcos are just another type of Opiate.

Norcos = Heroin in diluted pill form
